The Dirty Projectors

The Dirty Projectors

It kills me that I have to pass on TV on the Radio and The Dirty Projectors in June, but I’ve sworn off the Sound Academy since my last excursion (with some exceptions, of course). Bad news is that I’ll miss TV on the Radio for sure, but good news is that the Dirty Projectors will return later that month for a show at Lee’s with Skeletons on June 24th!

Other show announcements:
Abe Vigoda, Talbot Tagora @ El Mocambo (July 22nd, $10.00, 19+)
New York Dolls @ Lee’s (June 30th, $29.50, 19+)
Fake Problems @ Sneaky Dee’s (July 7th, $10.00, 19+)
Bowerbirds, Megafaun @ Sneaky Dee’s (July 14th, $11.50, 19+)
Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, Fireworks, Swellers, Gravemaker @ Reverb (July 18th, $16.00, 19+)
The Datsuns @ Horseshoe (July 20th, $15.00, 19+)
White Lies @ Phoenix (September 26th)
St. Vincent @ Lee’s (August 8th, 19+)
Underworld @ Kool Haus (August 11th)
The Rural Alberta Advantage @ Horseshoe (July 30th, 19+)
Tokyo Police Club, Winter Gloves @ CNE Bandshell (August 29th)

Ruby Coast is slated to play at the Horseshoe on June 20th; most likely as part of NXNENo Age has also been confirmed to be playing at Lee’s on June 19th for NXNE.

St. Vincent recently released a bonus track to her latest release, Actor. To listen to “Bicycle”, click here.

Another new Regina Spektor track has been released from her upcoming album. “Blue Lips” can be streamedhereFar will be released on June 22nd.

An Horse has a new video out for “Camp Out”. Watch here.

And last but not least, congratulations to Gonzales for officially breaking the record for longest concert! Read more about it here!

Happy listening!

Melody

TV On The Radio

TV On The Radio

Remember how I complained about the Coachella line-up? Well I hate Bonnaroo now too.

Stereogum, in addition to breaking my heart, also healed it a bit with some new Bishop Allen. Click here to check it out; their new album Grrr… is out March 10th!

TV on the Radio will be on Saturday Night Live this weekend! First the Fleet Foxes, now TV on the Radio? Sweet.

Stream the new song Flaming Lips song, entitled “Anything You Say Now I Believe You” on their MySpace now!

Cloud Cult and Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s will be at the El Mocambo on April 3rd. Tickets will be $10.

Also appearing at the El Mo on March 3rd will be the Pitchfork’d Airborne Toxic Event. In regards to that review – wow. I have yet to listen to the album, so I cannot make any further comments; but wow.

Vancouverites, Bend Sinister will be stopping by for two dates in Toronto – one at the Horseshoe (March 10th – FREE) and the other at Black Betty (March 12th – as part of CMW)

If you missed out on the free Thunderheist gig at Nathan Philips Square this past weekend, you’re in luck as they have been confirmed as the headliners for this year’s Exclaim Anniversary Tour! They will return to Toronto on April 30th at the Phoenix. Further details including opening acts are TBA.

Darrelle London will host a CD Release Show for his upcoming release, Edible Word Parade at the Supermarket on Tuesday February 17th. Doors are at 8:00 pm, cover is $5 and opening for London will be Mandippal!

You like Hollerado? Like them enough to catch them every Thursday this month? The Montreal band will be playing every Thursday at Sneaky Dee’s with different guests each week that are as follows:

Feb. 5 – Young Rival and Atom Division
Feb. 12 – Dinosaur Bones and Barnburner
Feb. 19 – The Vestaloynes and Bad Flirt
Feb. 26 – Black Names

Another fantastic option for this Thursday? The Robot Ate Me, Braxton Clover, Emperor X and Your Volunteer at Rancho Relaxo! Cover is $6!

On Friday, The Boat will host its monthly “Room Party” show. This month, they will feature Toronto’s own Foxfire and Hard Dough! Cover is $5!

That will be all for now. I must apologize for the lack of updates on the Shows page this week. I will make it for it soon!

I’d also like to welcome a new member of our family, Athena Ngai! I’m sure you’ll all grow to love her just as much as I do! Scroll down to read her first post about The Coast! (unintentional rhyming!)

Happy listening!

Melody
