Phoenix

Phoenix

I’ve never been a huge fan of France’s Phoenix but lately, I’ve fallen in love with them and their new album,Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Their super-catchy rock melodies, combined with lead singer’s Thomas Mars’ playful voice and sing-along lyrics make for some songs that will be stuck in your head for days. Don’t trust me? Check out their new video for single “1901″ here; a truly simple yet fantastic video. Also, click here to watch an acoustic performance of album opener “Lisztomania”. I dare you to not sing or hum that the next day.

Bat For Lashes has released a new b-side to Two Suns, titled “Wilderness”. Click here to listen.

As you’ve probably heard already (or witnessed, through the panic session everyone had on Twitter), the Olympic Island Festival (featuring Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky, Beach House, etc) was recently cancelled due to unknown reasons. But as a result, Broken Social Scene will be playing a free show at Harbourfront instead on July 11th. But beware: if you were at the free Crystal Castles show last summer and remembered how packed it was then; prepare for that times two. Maybe three.

No Age remixes Holy Fuck’s “Lovely Allen”. Click here to watch/listen. No Age will be in town for NXNE in June and Holy Fuck will be playing a free show at Harbourfront on July 10th, with the Winter Gloves.

i(heart)music predicts Polaris Prize potentials this year. Read more here. If you can think of any other candidates, let us know! I can probably think of a few; I’ll post them up soon.

Charlottetown’s The Danks will be releasing their new album, Are You Afraid Of The Danks? on June 30th.

Cadence Weapon remixes Woodhands, Chad Vangaalen and more. Read his blog here to download all the tracks!

Happy listening!

An Horse

An Horse

Santigold will be at the Phoenix on June 3rd.

I hate myself for forgetting to mention this (although to be fair, I said it on Twitter when I found out a few days ago) - Laura Barrett and The Phonemes will be at the Tranzac on Thursday, April 2nd. And on April 3rd,Out of This Spark Records will present Picastro, Casey Mecjia (Ohbijou, Bruce Peninsula), and Chris Sutherland at the front room of the Tranzac. Doors for both shows will be at 10:00 pm and the April 3rd show is Pay What You Can.

Green Go will be celebrating the release of their new album Borders at the Wrong Bar on April 30th, along with special guests The Magic, Everything All the Time and DJ sets by OPOPO. Cover is $5.00 – worth it!

In case you missed Australia’s An Horse during CMW, the duo will be back on April 21st, opening for Appleseed Cast at the Horseshoe. Tickets are still available for $10.00 and this will be a 19+ event.

Lewis and Clark will open for Bat For Lashes at the Mod Club on April 25th. Tickets are still available for $15.00 and this will also be a 19+ event.

Opening for The Pains of Being Pure At Heart at Lee’s on April 28th will be Brooklyn’s Zaza.

Portland’s Grouper will join Animal Collective on tour this summer. Look for them to make a stop at the Sound Academy on May 16th. I do believe tickets are sold out for this event though.

And last but not least in “opening acts” news, Montreal’s David MacLeod will be opening for Plants and Animals at the Mod Club on May 7th. Tickets are still available for $15.00 and this event will be 19+.

Sunset Rubdown has announced details about their new album, entitled Dragonslayer. Read more about it (and take a look at the sweet album cover) here!

And to end off today’s news update, I’d like to dedicate this post to Blender Magazine, as the publication will be shutting down, with its current issue on newsstands being its last. I had stopped reading Blender for quite some time now, but I was a fan at one point; they will be missed.

Faunts

Faunts

One day, I want to look back at all these posts and see how many of my posts (and my Lamb writer’s posts) to see how many times we mention stress or school work. It would be a lot.

Here’s some news for the day!

In case you didn’t catch Toronto’s Crystal Castles play at the Indies last week (albeit, I heard it was a short set), then you’re in luck. The duo will be back in town on July 25th at the Sound Academy. (via Windish Agency)

Ruby Coast has been added to the list of opening acts for Passion Pit next Friday at Lee’s Palace, along with Cale Parks.

Insound is offering a free 7″ single of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Zero”, which features a remix of the track byAnimal Collective (!!) when you pre-order It’s Blitz! right now. This is a limited edition deal, so if you’re a fan of either band, order now!

Bat For Lashes has joined the ever so addictive Twitter universe. Follow her here. Also, watch her new video for “Daniel” here.

Sigur Ros recently did an episode of The Takeaway Show. Watch the fantastic acoustic take here.

i(heart)music has a great profile on Edmonton’s Faunts. To read and download mp3′s, click here!

Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords

I’m not a Superbowl fan so instead of watching that, I’ve decided to write a news update for everyone! Also I’m not going to lie; I was totally watching America’s Best Dance Crew earlier tonight. It’s an entertaining show! Plus it was Britney Spears night (and as anyone that knows me would know, I don’t hide my love for Brit Brit)! I think I just have a thing for reality dance shows in general…

ANYWAY…

Breaking news!! Bat For Lashes will be at the Mod Club on April 25th! Further details TBA

The March 24th show at Sneaky Dee’s featuring Born Ruffians and Akron/Family is now sold out but do not fear, a second date has been added on March 23rd! Grab your tickets now before they sell out again!

Pre-sale tickets will start selling tomorrow morning and general sale begins Friday February 6th! The only downside? Tickets are a bit pricy at $49.50 a piece… but think about it, think think about it.

Cut Off Your Hands will be in town for a show on Monday March 30th at the Horseshoe. Tickets will be $10, doors will be at 8:30 pm and yes, it is 19+.

The whole mix up of venues for the Friendly Fires show has finally been cleared up! They will be at Lee’s Palace along with White Lies and The Soft Pack on Tuesday March 31st. Tickets are $15 and doors will be at 8:00 pm.
