The Singing Lamb: How’s the tour going so far? How is it touring with Sea Wolf?

Sara Lov: The shows have been super fun and the crowds seem to be receptive to what I’m doing. Playing with a record player as opposed to a band has been tricky to get used to. Sea Wolf is awesome. They are all good friends and we end up laughing a lot together…. Hearing their music every night is just icing on the cake.

How have past experiences (musically and personally) affected your music today?

Sara: I think everything I experience ends up somehow in my music.  It’s not intentional, but since my music is my emotional expression, I guess I can’t help it.

Do you remember the first time you played and instrument and how you felt?

Sara: It was guitar and I felt very frustrated. Singing is something I’ve always done and it’s my favourite.

Describe the writing and recording process of your full-length.

Sara: For most of the songs the music came first with acoustic guitar, then the melodies & lyrics. I wrote 3 of the songs with Dustin O’Halloran. As for the recording, it was all done with Zac Rae who produced the record and played on every song. Various friends of mine & Zac came in and played. We recorded at his studio, The Bank. It took a good year and a half to finish. It was an incredible experience.

Why did you choose to cover The Arcade Fire and Beck on your EP?

Sara: Well the idea was to cover something current. The Arcade Fire song was at the top of the list, as I’m a huge fan and love so many of their songs.  I’m also a big Beck fan but that song was more of a happy accident. Zac started playing that melody on the guitar & I jokingly started singing the words to Timebomb over it. Then we were like… Hey this is kinda cool… Maybe I’ll do two covers… It’s fun singing other people’s songs, and maybe easier in some way.

If you were a singing animal, what would you be?

Sara: Well, a hedgehog of course.
