Forest Field

Who could ever turn down the chance to listen to a free album? The Portland duo Experimental Dental School has recently released their new album, Forest Field, as a free download on their website. Only comprised of drums and a guitar, their music is very chaotic and unpredictable; progressing from thumping rhythms to tremulous contingent breakdowns. Forest Field presents us with 10 short-and-sweet tracks, sounding much more lean, focused, and stripped down than their previous albums. One of the standout tracks, “Royal Fantasy Snow” initially starts off eerie with an assortment of noise elements and childlike chanting, after which proceeds to a short burst of caroming fretwork. What is so great about this album is its spontaneity; each song is erratic and unique, there is no way in telling what to anticipate in each song. Similarly to bands such as Deerhoof (of whom they toured with), this may be something to get used to if it’s your first time listening; otherwise Forest Field is an album that everyone should definitely have a listen to.
